Your Rights Under the Law

Employers who have 50 or more employees must provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave each year for most employees who have worked at the company for at least one year. The employer can choose to provide the 12 weeks during an annual period or a 12-month rolling period. The leave does not have to be taken in a continuous segment. You can take leave periodically — for example, to attend physical therapy sessions or for regular appointments with a doctor.
